Forklift Simulator for Operator Training:
SIMPRO3 and SIMPRO

SANLAB is an Istanbul-based manufacturer of motion platforms and training simulators. The SIMPRO forklift simulator is an operator training station that puts a real steering wheel, pedals and levers in front of a virtual warehouse, and it is offered in two configurations: the SIMPRO3 with a 3DOF motion platform, and the SIMPRO as a static full-size system. Both configurations run the same scenarios, the same live monitoring and the same end-of-session reporting.

What is a forklift simulator?

A forklift simulator is a training station that reproduces forklift operation in a virtual warehouse through real controls, then measures what the operator actually does. The trainee repeats lifting, stacking, loading and maneuvering tasks without a real truck, a real load or a live aisle, and every input is recorded for review.

In the SIMPRO forklift simulator, the trainee sits at a seated station with a forklift steering wheel, pedals and levers, works through more than ten scenarios, and the system tracks steering input, lift timing, turning precision and route choices. The instructor follows the run live. The forklift station belongs to the same SimPro Simulation Series as SANLAB’s other heavy equipment training simulators.

What a forklift simulator does and does not replace

A simulator supports formal instruction and practical training. It does not replace the employer’s evaluation of the operator on a real truck in the real workplace. In the United States, OSHA 1910.178(l) divides powered industrial truck training into three parts: formal instruction, practical training, and evaluation of the operator’s performance in the workplace.

OSHA describes formal instruction as lecture, discussion, interactive computer learning, video tape and written material, and practical training as demonstrations performed by the trainer and practical exercises performed by the trainee. Simulator hours belong in those two stages, where repetition is cheap and mistakes cost nothing. The workplace evaluation stays where the standard puts it. Other countries set their own operator training rules, so check the requirements that apply to your program.

SIMPRO3 or SIMPRO: which setup fits your training room?

The SIMPRO3 adds a compact 3DOF motion platform, so the trainee receives physical motion feedback during slalom, loading and obstacle tasks. The SIMPRO delivers the same software and the same real controls on a static full-size station, built for steady training without motion. Choose the SIMPRO3 when the physical cue matters, and the SIMPRO when you want motion-free instruction focused on core handling skills such as pallet handling, smooth turning and precise alignment.

Beyond these two named configurations, the modular forklift simulator can also be built on a 6DOF motion platform on request.

Which training scenarios are included?

The simulator includes more than ten scenarios, and each one isolates a different skill, so an instructor can assign work against a specific weakness instead of repeating a general driving exercise. Scenario names on this page include slalom, slalom circle, balls on cones, obstacle driving, truck unloading and warehouse loading.

  • Slalom: steering control and distance judgement in a narrow aisle.
  • Slalom circle: continuous steering correction while holding a constant turning line.
  • Balls on cones: fine fork positioning and controlled lift at low speed.
  • Obstacle driving: route reading and clearance control around fixed obstructions.
  • Truck unloading: approach, fork entry and load removal from a trailer bed.
  • Warehouse loading: placing and retrieving loads at height in a storage layout.

How load handling and precision movement are trained

Load handling is trained by measurement, not by impression. The system follows lift timing, turning precision, route choices and operator input through each run, and Adaptive Scenario Training adjusts the challenge level as the trainee progresses, so a confident operator moves on while a struggling one repeats the same skill.

That makes the station useful for the part of forklift work that is hardest to teach by explanation: how early to slow down, how much mast movement a tall load tolerates, and which route through a congested layout costs the least time. The system logs key control behaviors throughout each task, so the exercise produces data instead of an opinion.

What the instructor sees during a session

Trainers can monitor all activity during a forklift session. Steering input, lift timing, turning precision and route choices are recorded live, and errors are detected in real time, so the trainer can follow performance as the run happens or review the results afterward.

Scenario conditions can be set to make an exercise harder or to rehearse a known site problem. Environmental settings such as rain, fog, snow, day and night modes and sunset lighting help reproduce real jobsite situations, so an operator can practice a low visibility aisle without waiting for the weather. Multiple camera options let the trainer and the operator follow every action from different angles.

What is in the end-of-session report?

At the end of training, a report is generated with scores, errors, and completion data. The measures behind it are accuracy, timing, fuel usage and operator input, which gives a trainer a record for each run rather than a single pass or fail impression.

Progress Reports & Evaluation turns that record into something a trainer can act on, helping evaluate progress and support skill growth. Trainers can follow performance live or review the results afterward, which keeps the discussion on what the operator did rather than on how the run looked.

Installing a forklift simulator in a training room

The simulator is built on a modular architecture that supports installation with or without a motion platform. The SIMPRO3 is installed together with its compact 3DOF motion platform, so the room has to allow for a moving base. The SIMPRO is a static full-size station without motion.

The System Specifications tab above describes the station layout and control setup. For installation details, use the Download Catalogue link on this page, or describe your room in the contact form when you request a quote.

Who uses SANLAB forklift simulators?

The simulator is built for vocational high schools and vocational training centers, warehouse and logistics operations training their own staff, and workforce development programs that run a regional training facility. Each of them needs measured practice hours that a live aisle and a single real truck cannot supply on schedule.

In Gaziantep, Türkiye, 30 women trained as forklift operators with SANLAB simulators and started work in the Gaziantep Organized Industrial Zone. This and other projects are collected in SANLAB’s simulator-based vocational training projects. Programs that cover more than one machine can combine the forklift station with a telehandler simulator or a 3in1 simulator for excavator, backhoe loader and telehandler training.

Forklift Simulator - FAQ

Does a forklift simulator replace hands-on forklift training?

No. A simulator covers formal instruction and practical training, where repetition is safe and measurable. Operator training rules generally also call for an evaluation on a real truck in the workplace; in the United States, OSHA 1910.178(l) requires it. The simulator prepares the operator for that evaluation and does not substitute for it.

The SIMPRO3 includes a compact 3DOF motion platform that gives physical motion feedback during driving and loading tasks. The SIMPRO is a static full-size system. Scenarios, real controls, optional VR headset integration, live monitoring and end-of-session reporting are the same in both, so the choice is about motion feedback.

More than ten. The scenarios named on this page are slalom, slalom circle, balls on cones, obstacle driving, truck unloading and warehouse loading, and each targets a separate skill such as steering control, fork positioning, clearance judgement or working at height. Instructors assign them individually or as a sequence.

Yes. Simulator sessions give measured practice before an operator returns to the real truck. In the United States, OSHA 1910.178(l) requires refresher training when an operator is seen operating unsafely, is involved in an accident or near miss, receives an evaluation showing unsafe operation, is assigned a different type of truck, or faces changed workplace conditions, and each operator's performance must be evaluated at least once every three years.

A live view of the session, with steering input, lift timing, turning precision and route choices recorded as the run happens. Multiple camera options let the trainer and the operator follow every action from different angles, and the exercise can be set up with conditions such as fog, snow or night.

That depends on the configuration. The SIMPRO3 is a compact unit on a 3DOF motion platform, so the room must allow for its moving base; the SIMPRO is a static full-size station. For installation details, download the catalogue on this page or describe your room in the contact form.
